There's something wonderful about Sundays. The quietness, the slower pace. Everyone seems to be taking it easy, enjoying one more day of rest before another hectic working week begins. In his series, The Silence of Munich, photographer Skander Khlif captures the quiet of Munich's museum district, where people enjoy a peaceful wander around the Alte Pinakothek and Pinakothek der Moderne.
Skander apparently had just moved to the German metropolis and wanted to get to know his new home, so decided to take his camera to the museums and photograph lone individuals against the dramatic sweeping architecture – picking out and playing with the contrasting light and shadows.
He explained: “I just moved to Munich. And on the first Sunday I had to present myself to my new city and at the same time get to know ‘her’ better! The heart of every city is the museum area and there I went!...What a beautiful silent Sunday!”
