Reality is a new exhibition that will challenge your perceptions of what is and isn't real

If you happen to be in Omaha this summer, you should pop along to the KANEKO gallery on Jones Street to enjoy a new exhibition that will challenge your perceptions of reality.

Misha Gordin

Entitled, you guessed it, Reality, the show features various artists who are dissecting the notion of truth, history, and the presentation of what is "real" with interdisciplinary installations connecting art, science, and technology.

"The way we work, live, and learn is rapidly changing. Advanced technologies including augmented and virtual reality are expanding beyond entertainment and into our everyday lives," remarks the show's organisers. "These technologies prompt a different kind of learning, focused on play, exploration, and creativity."

During Reality, The University of Nebraska Medicine Interprofessional Center for Enduring Learning will present new and emerging technologies that transform the effectiveness and performance of today’s healthcare. Fly through the retina of an eye, dissect a brain, and explore other parts of the human body in virtual space.

Conversely, conceptual photographer, Misha Gordin employs reality, relying minimally on technology. During the rise of digital photo manipulation, Gordin stayed faithful to traditional darkroom and masking techniques, believing the way he distorts photos is still real. Step inside his hauntingly surreal concepts and witness his quest for perfection through large-scale photography.

The Museum of Alternative History, led by Tim Guthrie, will incorporate material objects created by artists and writers that ask you to think critically about how you discern fact and fiction, history and myth. Its selection of curiosities and artefacts will offer explanations for the nature of the world and universe, and alternate histories contrary to, well, history.

Reality runs from now until 26 September 2018. Admission to the gallery is free. For more information, visit thekaneko.org.
