The visual art of Ulla Jokisalo uses an interesting mix of photography, collage and embroidery. The artist works with a number of different materials to create each finished piece, creating her own language in art.
Being deeply inspired by 19th-century children’s literature and the sombre black-and-white illustrations, Jokisalo’s recent work ‘Headless Women’ has an element of storytelling to it. Using pins to create hybrid human-animal figures against backdrops of grandeur certainly gives each artwork a talking point. Her other works are incredibly varied with a particular fascination of scissors, needle and thread, but nonetheless just as intriguing.
