Maëlle Doliveux's innovative comics and illustrations beautifully crafted out of paper

Maëlle Doliveux creates comics and illustrations in an innovative way – by building them out of paper. Using layers upon layers of coloured paper, she meticulously creates beautifully detailed artworks that resemble relief sculptures. Then, using carefully designed lighting and inventive photography, she brings her charming images and stories to life.

"Ever since I was little, I’ve made paper houses, paper cell phones, paper laptops and all sorts of different things to have fun with as toys," says Maëlle. "There is something very magical about the possibilities of paper - it’s this simple, basic object and you can make absolutely anything with it. You can fold it in certain ways, you can go from two dimensional to three dimensional, you can paint it, texture it or rip it. The possibilities are limitless."

A French-Swiss illustrator with a background in architecture, Maëlle has an impressive client portfolio, having been commissioned for The New York Times, The Boston Globe, New York Magazine, Newsweek, and Buzzfeed News.

She has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the publishing of her new book, I WILL LIVE FOREVER, a stunning papercraft comic described as a ‘playful mediation on mortality’.
