Indian homeless shelter is given a makeover with colourful crochet

Artist Olek has consistently used her talent with a pair of knitting needles to draw attention to important socio-political issues. And her latest project has brought vibrant colour to Indian homeless shelter ‘Raine Basera’ in New Delhi. As part of the St+art Delhi street art festival, Olek, along with a mass of volunteers and donations from Indian fashion labels, transformed the shelter into something rather beautiful.

The bold yellows, purples and reds evoke India’s vibrant culture and the glorious textiles they are well known for. Although it has helped to brighten up the area, it still leaves a striking message about the reality of poverty in New Dehli, and indeed across the world.
