Ghostly doily masked portraits shape their own era in history

Giving traditional posed photographs a makeover, Francesca Lombardi and Giacomo Favilla present the series ‘Doily’. The photographs feature a series of creative masks that are in fact a beautifully crocheted doily. Taking the object out of its normal context, the Italian multi-disciplined designer and photographer duo use the doily to adorn the human face, with startling yet captivating results.

Shaping the doily into a new form of accessory, Lombardi and Favilla present portraits that make you look twice. The old-fashioned clothing and doily adornment give the portraits a ghostly appearance that does not seem to fit anywhere into history, but rather shapes an alternate and somehow familiar reality.
