Springtime is well and truly blossoming and in the work of Anne Ten Donkelaar spring is the only season. The artist’s work creates beautiful floral collages that breathe life into many tiny buds, so that each canvas is a garden in bloom. Using photographs of flowers, Donkelaar grows her own garden with unique flower combinations.
The flowers literally appear to grow from the canvas due to being suspended above the background by small stalk-like pins. Each piece is flourishing with layers of wildflowers, fungi and cactus. There are even elements of black and white photography amongst the bold spring colours to give another ethereal effect. The artist captions her pieces with the idea that “Weeds become poetry, each unique twig gets attention, nature seems to float”.
