Artist Daniel Catalano's beautiful paintings explore multiple states of being

In his series Figure Compositions, American artist Daniel Catalano's beautiful paintings consist of single and multi-figure compositions which reject any kind of narrative and instead experiment with multiple states of being, across many timeframes.

He explains: "The use of the figure enables infinitely varying shape, colour, and form as it is deployed in the pictorial matrix, while my examination of the nude is in search of its materialism within an absurdist view. The work is constructed as an assemblage of discontinuous forms that create abstract space through recognisable imagery."

Catalano's work reminds us of the classical artworks of Alex Kanevsky – another exceptionally talented painter who also avoids depicting a moment in time to instead explore the mysterious things that happen before, during and after an event.
