New pop-up museum in Chicago features a Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrored Room

The new wndr museum is an experiential and immersive pop-up experience, the first of its kind to open in Chicago.

Designed to provoke curiosity, challenge perception, explore immersive art and ignite our sense of wonder and possibility, its launch exhibition, entitled Finite/Infinite, was inspired by Charles and Ray Eames' iconic 1977 Powers of Ten film, which begins with a scene on the Chicago Lakefront and explores both the infinite scale of the universe and finite detail as tiny as human cells.

Inside, you'll find a playful, engaging, fully immersive atmosphere, elevated by substantive content, and incorporating art from some of the world’s most celebrated and beloved artists.

For the first time ever, a Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrored Room will be on display in Chicago – presented as one of the final steps on the journey through the wndr museum.

There'll also be a Microscope Hall: "We are surrounded by objects much smaller than us that we often overlook," explains the museum. "Microscopes allow us to observe those items that are invisible to the naked eye. Guests will have the opportunity to open small shadow boxes that contain unexpected miniatures of familiar scenes. There will also be two hologram displays that play with guests’ perceptions."

The Prism Room is a gallery of prisms covering the walls. Made of semi-translucent, iridescent materials, these prisms refract light and display the spectral colours of the rainbow. The Ames Room, meanwhile, is a mind-bending optical illusion. When empty, it looks like an ordinary space. But once inside, people appear to have dramatically shrunken or grown in size.

There's also a DNA Cave where you can walk around an expansive structure that mimics the connectivity of DNA. Plus a Cloud Room that asks the question: Have you ever wondered what it might feel like to walk among the clouds?
