Print Isn’t Dead Element 002 by the People of Print is brimming with content that focuses on the themes of self-publishing, DIY and counter-culture. This beautiful magazine comes in two variations, showcasing both offset lithography and screen printing in a glorious six channel display of vibrant and fluorescent inks.
The online community for print lovers, which was established in 2008 by Marcroy Smith, has continued to work with Pureprint Group and Fedrigoni Paper on this issue, in order to keep the production quality of the magazine impeccable. This time around they have teamed up with ADC award winning designer James Lunn, along with Swiss Typefaces, Heretic Studio and Permaset who have all contributed greatly towards pushing the boundaries of the magazine's design.
The cover steps away from the conventional idea that a uniform title is required by creating 500 limited edition hand screen printed covers, which are unique in their own right; instead, the graphics, colours and print quality become the common denominator that unifies the project as Element 002.
Element 002 content includes interviews with SuicideGirls - founded by Missy in 2001 as a way to celebrate diverse and beautiful real world women (LA); magCulture - a resource for anyone interested in editorial design, championing smaller print independents, alongside mainstream magazines; Michiel Schuurman - a graphic and textile designer for Vlisco who screen prints his own designs (NL); as well as features which include underground press OZ Magazine and John Delany, a London based memorabilia collector, Carlin Brown - a digital artist collating her work into a handheld book (CA), Zut Alors, graphic design studio exploring creative writing (NYC) and more.
