Playful Olympics-themed paper sculptures by Barcelona artist Raya Sader Bujana

When I first discovered Barcelona-based paper artist Raya Sader Bujana, I thought her work looked good enough to eat, as she recreated popular food using only paper.

In her latest series, she collaborated with photographer Leo García Méndez to create stock photography surrounding an Olympic theme – crafting sport-inspired paper sculptures made out of multiple layers.

From the flexible gymnast to the lean, professional cyclist – each artwork includes up to 150 pieces of paper, which are joined by lots of tiny 3mm separators to create the 3D effect. Raya explains: "The whole concept of this design was to express movement using paper. The added texture, light and volume that the technique provides reinforces the fluidity of the pieces"

Follow her on Instagram to see more of her delightful paper artworks. Or check out her Etsy shop where you can get your hands on a range of her origami decorations and jewellery.
