Conversations with Hopper: Artist paints miniature tributes within buildings at night

Conversations with Hopper is a new body of work from Toronto-based artist Peter D. Harris. Peter's oil on canvas paintings have often focussed on the urban landscape of his surroundings, painted at night and devoid of people. But his recent paintings include small, accurate versions of the artist Edward Hopper's most iconic paintings, painted as if hanging in the interior spaces of modern architecture.

The final painting is very much a meditation on the work of Hopper's, exploring how his work has influenced modern landscape painting and becomes a document of the dialogue between two artists inspired be similar themes. Can you spot the original Hopper paintings within Peter's work?

Born in London, Peter currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario. He completed a degree in Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo in 1997. Since then, he has exhibited his oil paintings in group and solo exhibitions in Canada and the United States. He has won several awards for his continuing series of urban inspired landscape paintings, including an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant and a Waterloo Region Arts Fund project grant. His work can be found in private collections in Canada, the United Stated and Europe. He is represented by the Mira Godard Gallery in Toronto, Galerie d'Este in Montreal, and the Ian Tan Gallery in Vancouver.
